It was great to see Cheryl back sewing in the Manton Sewing Room. This time her friend, Di joined us, after a series of frustrating postponements due to the collapse of my central heating system over the winter. Brrrrr: my boiler was limping on and conking out from November onwards before finally being condemned in February, by which time it was 3 degrees centrigrade in the sewing room!

Both ladies had lots of sewing experience but wanted to grow confidence using the walking foot attachments of their machines. Making a snazzy quilted mat to protect their dining room tables when using their sewing machines was a great project to see the walking foot in action and also have a go at machine binding.

I hope both Di and Cheryl would agree that the workshop was very rewarding, with lots of new skills learnt by us all. Despite unanticipated difficulties for myself with the maths involved in measuring the mats to fit and a few hiccups for the others, the mats were completed to a fab standard over the two sessions They look just brilliant! Fortunately, it was lovely and cool in the sewing room (despite the heatwave melting tar outside) so the mood was relaxed and friendly and both ladies are already booked in for a September workshop!
I quite fancy making a matching sewing machine cover now... Any takers?
